Dreamcatcher History

Image
Dreamcatcher History Description:  Traditionally made from a willow hoop and found materials such as feathers. A dreamcatcher is a protection charm known for catching the bad dreams and allowing the good dreams to flow down into the dreams of the sleeper.  History: Dreamcatcher history originated within the Objiwa and Lakota cultures. In the Lakota culture it is said that the great teacher Iktomi appeared to the village elder as a spider upon a mountaintop. Iktomi explained to the elder about the cycle of life while spinning his web upon a willow hoop. He said if you believe in the Great Spirit the hoop will allow good dreams to flow through the web and bad dreams to be caught. Allowing his people to seek wisdom and protection from this hoop, known as a dreamcatcher. In the Objiwa culture dreamcatchers were predominantly used for infants for protection. Symbolism: Traditionally there are 2 version of the web of a dreamcatcher, where the web connects ...

How To Make A Tassel

Image
DIY DAY How To Make A Tassel I'll be showing you guys how I made these tassels. I am currently making them in preparation for my next project! Step One: You will need some supplies but also a flat object to assist with making the tassel. Supplies: yarn, flat object, scissors  I took the plastic cover off of my planner, it works so much better than cardboard. We will be wrapping the yarn around the cover. I leave a little yarn at the bottom so it won't unravel as I wrap it. I used the holes as a grid to measure how wide to make the tassel. I choose 3 notches I cut a piece of yarn at 11 notches, this will be the tassels topper Then I cut a piece of yarn at 4x's the length of the cover, this will be to wrap the tassel Use the small piece of yarn to pull under tassel At the very bottom cut the tassel off the cover Tie a knot very tight at the top of the tassel keeping both sides even. Starting from th...

The Great Work #8

Live A Life You're Not Ashamed Of What thoughts or experiences still bring up shame for you? To sum it up for this question I would have to answer it by saying, I am ashamed of how much approval I needed from other people to make decisions in my life. Or how much approval I needed to be happy. I naturally care about other people, but then it often got me sucked into their negativity. Also naturally being a people pleaser, if they weren't happy I would take it upon myself to make sure they were. Sacrificing my own happiness. Then one day, during my journey through The Great Work, I woke up! I asked myself, what do I want, what makes me happy? One tip that finally stuck in my head, 7 years later something my husband told me when we were younger, stop caring what other people think, say, or do! Thats what I am most ashamed of, not listening to him after all this time... He was already living the most fundamental part of a happy life, not caring what others have ...

How I Stopped Biting My Nails!

Image
Stop Biting Your Nails Today! For me it was far worse than just biting my nails, it was my cuticles as well. I mean to the point I would bleed and i still wouldn't even be able to stop picking. It obviously was due to my stress and anxiety but, how did I stop? First Step: Eliminate what stresses you, what triggers your anxiety. Also 7 years of visual merchandising really took a toll on my hands! Second Step: Start taking care of yourself! I found products that motivated me to not bite my nails. I also swear by these products. I like to make my own beauty products, but if I am going to buy anything it would be these products. Burt's Bee's- Almond & Milk Hand Cream Burt's Bee's- Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream Sally Hansen- Advanced Hard as Nails Strengthener  Revlon- Nail Filer Step Three: Develop a system. For me, when I had the urge to bite my nails I would moisturize my hands. Without flaky skin, hangnails or cuticles lifting I wouldn...

Great Work #7, Beating Anxiety

Image
Beating Anxiety How do you respond to information overload? (My Favorite tree in Swatek Park, in Shepard District, where I go to relax) Im going to be completely honest with you all today, struggle with anxiety. So this question isn't so easily answered. I am constantly bombarded with information overload. So, how do I respond? Well my body always responds first, with headaches and fatigue. I believe in fighting off and natural herbal preventative medicine rather than medication.   This is why I think I should answer this question instead, "How can you prevent information overload?" I believe it starts with thinking and coming to a solution to one situation at a time. When we jump around in our minds to many different problems we forget to solve the first one that triggered our anxiety. Next, you need a spot where you can go, away from everything else to relax and think calmly. For me it is always outside, grounding is a powerful form of relaxation. I...

Jello Time!

Image
Summer Snacks Jello Time! When we were at the store yesterday Gabriel had an awesome idea to buy Jello. However, being the frugal mom that I am I new it would be cheaper and a lot more fun to just make it ourselves.  I let the Kids pick out their own Jello. Here are our supplies. Since we didn't have any containers to put the Jello in I repurposed some pasta sauce jars, again the frugal mama comes out! Gabriel is such a big boy now! To begin follow the instructions on your box.  Right before the jello is set about 80% you can add fruit into the jar, and you will get this...  Gabriel did this by himself, I had to take the picture because Gabriel was afraid to hold the jar lol Check out our funny clips on Instagram: candaleriaconfesses

The Great Work #6, How I left Corporate Retail

Image
How I left Corporate Retail and began living the life I always wanted... What patterns can you discern in major adult choices?      One pattern I noticed in my own life choices was that they were based solely around my career and what the n"next step" was. Shouldn't family come first? Shouldn't I be able to say I enjoy what I'm doing? Or that I believe in what I am doing? Well I had definitely been lying to myself and tell myself it was for my family, but I failed to look at all my options or give up on what I had spent years trying to build.       I hope that not everyone's experience in Corporate Retail is as awful as mine was! But I had realized I was working for the very company I would despise of otherwise, except they gave me a paycheck! People often asked me about my ideals and where I saw myself in the future, It definitely wasn't where I was ill tell you that, but it always led to, "If you hate fast fashion so much why do you...

Potty Training in 3 days

Image
Heres How Gabriel Was Potty Trained In 3 Days! As most of you know already we just recently moved to Oklahoma City from California, during all that chaos potty training Gabriel had to take a pause. Both me and my husband were working and between packing, planning, and having to drive the almost 1,800 miles, I knew it wasn't going to be possible. So I planned to begin his potty training when we finally moved into our apartment! I bought  just the right amount of diapers to last exactly to my plan. I researched other moms tactics and stories and found one blog that was super inspiring...  http://themonarchmommy.com/2015/10/29/skip-the-trainers-potty-training-in-three-days/  After all my research the day came the morning of 4th of July! Heres what we bought... Bought big boy underwear (12pk), he choose DC super heroes Bought some of his favorite cookies (for his reward), almond cookies are his favorite! (We decided not to but a toilet seat or step s...

The Great Work What is your comfort level with expressing yourself through writing? I am not a very verbal person, so writing is also something I don't do much of. Since reading The Great Work I have been focusing on expressing myself through writing with this blog. I am still not comfortable but I hope to inspire others to reach out side their own comfort levels. I express myself through more artistic mediums.  Heres a few things I made today.... The Great Work #4

Image
The Great Work What connects you to each an every moment in your life? Good morning everyone, I am even more trilled this morning because I just woke up in my family's new apartment. This is particularly exciting because its the first time we have lived on our own entirely. Living in California we had to always live with other family members, usually up to 6 adults and 3 kids in one house. This is a huge milestone for us and we cant be any more happy to now call Oklahoma City our new home! I am a visual learner and thinker, so powerful imagery helps me connect with the world around me. When some one says there were 3 birds, I don't simply think, oh ok 3, my mind draws a full image of these birds and even sees them in motion. Connecting to moments in my life is a similar process, I take in every detail and draw a photo in my head, almost as if the memory is being filed away. It often helps me to connect to the moments by watching myself in them, similar to astr...
