The Great Work #6, How I left Corporate Retail
How I left Corporate Retail and began living the life I always wanted...
What patterns can you discern in major adult choices?
One pattern I noticed in my own life choices was that they were based solely around my career and what the n"next step" was. Shouldn't family come first? Shouldn't I be able to say I enjoy what I'm doing? Or that I believe in what I am doing? Well I had definitely been lying to myself and tell myself it was for my family, but I failed to look at all my options or give up on what I had spent years trying to build.
I hope that not everyone's experience in Corporate Retail is as awful as mine was! But I had realized I was working for the very company I would despise of otherwise, except they gave me a paycheck! People often asked me about my ideals and where I saw myself in the future, It definitely wasn't where I was ill tell you that, but it always led to, "If you hate fast fashion so much why do you work for this company?" I never listened to that question entirely I simply gave them an answer I felt was appropriate. However, they were right why the heck am I here??
Then I had to ask myself, What do I want? What do I believe in? Am I expressing my true self?
Here Is a list of the top priorities that led to my decision:
- I don't believe in buying brand new clothes, I only like to shop second hand
- I will make all my own clothes if I have to
- I don't like being told what to wear, I love fashion and trend forecasting but I say what I wear!
- Ethics is important, especially when it comes to operating a business
- Shopping locally is something I highly value, support your local business owners, especially when they value the same ideals as you!
- Reduce my families global footprint
- I want to care for my family, If I'm going to be catering to anyone its them
- I want more children and I don't want to miss out on their infancy or toddler years ever again!
- I want to own my own business and run things the way I want to
- I want to live somewhere new
- I want to be able to travel
- I want to make my own rules
- I want to live a peaceful, stress less life. I want to meditate, do yoga, admire the stars, collect my crystals, dry herbs, pick flowers, follow the moon...
Now I am living the life I always wanted. I had to first say NO, so I can now say YES... to life!
(I love catching my children in awe over new discoveries)
