Potty Training in 3 days

Heres How Gabriel Was Potty Trained In 3 Days!

As most of you know already we just recently moved to Oklahoma City from California, during all that chaos potty training Gabriel had to take a pause. Both me and my husband were working and between packing, planning, and having to drive the almost 1,800 miles, I knew it wasn't going to be possible. So I planned to begin his potty training when we finally moved into our apartment! I bought  just the right amount of diapers to last exactly to my plan. I researched other moms tactics and stories and found one blog that was super inspiring...

After all my research the day came the morning of 4th of July!

Heres what we bought...
  1. Bought big boy underwear (12pk), he choose DC super heroes
  2. Bought some of his favorite cookies (for his reward), almond cookies are his favorite!
(We decided not to but a toilet seat or step stool since our toilet in the new apartment is a perfect height for him to climb up on. If this isn't the case for you I would suggest buying a seat or small floor potty)
Heres how we prepped...
  1. Communicate with your little one on what to expect. I had spent the last week counting down his diapers, explaining to hi how he is transition. What this means for him, becoming a big boy and everything.
  2. Put all of his big boy underwear on the bathroom room counter for easy access
Day 1

Bright and early, 6 am to be exact, I woke him up, I put him in his big boy underwear, and I encouraged him to use the toilet. It wasn't easy at first, He had an accident about an hour later :( This continued to happen...6 more times. I showed him what his award would be, I asked him every 10 minutes if he had to go potty. I realized it was a pattern, he had an accident about every hour! So I changed tactics, I put on my phones timer for 30 minutes right after his last accident. 30 minutes later I took him to the potty and... It was a miracle!! He made it! So I began giving him his reward, his cookie. I continued this process all the way until bed time, I also made sure he had no liquids 2 hours before bedtime.

*So, I know your wondering, how did I prevent accidents at night, or the bed getting wet? Now bare with me here, not everyone might agree with this strategy, but it was super important for Gabriel to not wear any more diapers at all! (also considering he had no more diapers) Before he went to bed I used a panty liner in his underwear. They are super absorbent and allowed him to keep his underwear on! And guess what?? He woke up dry! No accidents :) *

Day 2
We continued the timer process as soon as Gabriel woke up until the afternoon. Then something happened that I had been dreading...I had to take Gabriel with me to the store! So I waited until his timer went off, took him to the bathroom and we left immediately! I probably looked like an insane woman running through the isles, throwing the bag in my trunk and hurrying home! But Gabriel had no accidents, as soon as we got back he went straight to the potty. He went the rest of the day with no accidents, I began extending the timer to 45 minutes, I even began weaning hm off the reward. Our proud faces encouraged him enough to begin telling us when he had to go potty himself.

Day 3
This morning went as smooth as the rest, no accidents at night and he was even going to the potty and resetting the timer himself. I had to put him to the ultimate test today...going to the potty in public restrooms! I figured we might as well encounter all the biggest challenges when it come to potty training early on. We went to the grocery store and a local thrift store, as soon as we arrived at every new place I took him straight to the bathroom and before we left back to the bathroom. We made it back home with zero accidents, I couldn't believe it, I am so proud of my little man!

We plan on continuing the timer process until he becomes more comfortable going to the potty completely alone! leave your questions or comments, share your own personal stories as well...
